My dad worked for Hardleys Ltd. (Plumbing merchants) who merged with Samuel Parker & Co Ltd to form "Parker Hardleys". He was a travelling salesman covering the wider Waikato from Hamilton. Copper pipe, Crox nuts & solder as well as tapware, porcelainware and waste fittings etc. Plumbers used 'hemp' in the days before teflon (PTFE) tape which was hailed as a wonder product when it was introduced.

As well as the aforementioned Roller Doors, Dustbins, Flashings etc. I recall there was a division at Sam. Parker & Co, Ltd. making pressed stainless steel kitchenware (Butter dishes, cheese covers etc. some of which had hardwood handles) We have many 'sales samples' still in our late mum's house. Very retro now.

Hardleys made an 'Up & Over' garage door with galvanised cladding on a timber frame and heavy spring-assist. - two examples of which are still performing well at home after 50 years. A galvanised long-run roofing was developed with a unique profile that enabled you to click each new length into the previous one and needed few retaining clips. (Our still looks good (unpainted) on the same garage.

At the time of the companies' merger I was excited about the prospect of a 'sample' Parkercraft being added to dad's sales inventory - Sadly that never happened.

A disappointment for a budding teenaged fisherman.

Not a De Havalind (spelling) is it, I believe they were made back in late 60s early 70s

The early PC's were rivet structured much the same as aircraft of that era but for some unknown reason switched later on to being welded ... not long after Parker Engineering went defunct.

The reason I vividly recall the name plates is because I had to mask tape them when painting inside/outside of each boat.

Reckon it is hard to make a definitive call on that Kerry ... I have owned two of the early ParkerCraft & several factors are different to that I remember ... namely.

There do not appear to be as many rivets or for that matter strengthening ribs plus do not recall seeing any with a windscreen also the rear carry handles are missing.

Furthermore the boat in the pic appears to be about 12 ft. whereas the PC's produced were in the majority by far 10 footers in order to be accommodated in a less than successful vehicle roof top type of structure.

Parker craft were the first ali boats to be built in NZ by the now defunct Parker Engineering at the bottom of Parnell rise the scene of the MOW's ill fated demo of a NZ built tank during WW2 ... the ugliest war time vehicle ever built & could not even get up Parnell Rise, let alone any active war time territory, but not too worry had corrogated roofing iron sides to protect it !

Anyway the 10 ft PC were & still are, remarkable little boats that many have survived the test of time of over 50 yrs, were mostly driven by low hp Sea gull o/b motors, also were/are a dream to row in most conditions ... all good reasons if you can find one they command X5 or X6 their original price. Have always wondered why someone has not revived making them.

At the time there were a few copy cat craft produced but none were as successful & I strongly suspect the example in the pic was one of them ... however could be wrong ... I was once!
