The guys I got it off had replaced their rollers as the boat had cut them in half, will see how the new ones go and maybe adjust design like you. Sounds like Skelton shut down after Covid so nothing going to come from there I guess.

    Author: JustAnotherSpearo
Subject: 131750
Posted: 14 Feb 2025 at 5:27pm

Hi there Musing things

For the size of the boat they are extremely good. Small boat and can do a number of things comfortably. I'd imagine the 60hp would be more than sufficient. The 100hp is rarely used.

It's certainly a weapon when it comes to space. You can fish quite comfortably. When the weather packs up you can happily slowly get home dry.

If you don't mind the body taking a toll, with the weight right. You can push the boat fairly hard with a fairly harsh ride and get home in some lumpy stuff quickly (comfortable in 15knots of wind is 20knots of speed)

Funnily enough, it's the swell that limits the boats speed the most, close together with a short period can be absolutely painful to run into, it gets airborne rather easy. Most people aren't in a rush to get to their next destination though.

The only issues we have had since purchasing has been with the trailer. One of the rollers went missing somewhere in northland, not a weld that broke but somehow sheared through the metal. We have since put another set of rollers in to spread weight more evenly and we had an issue with getting the boat off the back roller at low tide, float off no worries. Pushing off was a mission. Sorted with some adjustments. Skeltoncraft never returned phone calls, emails or anything regarding the trailer issues. We ended up fixing at our cost. I would very much doubt any support from the builder Mark will be possible going forward for anyone. (still havnt heard to date and this would have been nearly 2 years back at a guess)

Check the front windscreen where the cab folds down forward. Ours is starting to crack along the folded seam which I would assume is based on forces when towing

Overall though for a small boat they're very beamy. Extremely practical. Very sea worthy for their size and they absolutely fly for their size.

Rate I better than the 14ft 6 sea nymph I grew up with by a mile and those hulls are tried and proven.

I would take the 520 Lazercraft over this boat any day of the week however but length and hull shape make the Lazercraft impossible to compare. Completely different platforms and my focus on a boat is spearfishing not tackle fiddling so ride out weighs comfort at rest in my book.

With the 100hp on a flat calm day. It is a lot of fun to be able to keep up with the big boats full noise knowing you are only burning 30l an hour and sitting at 70 odd kph

I do need to give credit where it is due. As a teenager going into a young adult, brother and I destroyed a 12ft fyran and the 370 enforcer had the hull crack and cause multiple issues. Mainly from being driven hard and used.

This boat has had similar treatment and is still going strong, when it gets lumpy and dad isn't onboard. We just punch it home.

For a young family of 4 would be absolutely fantastic. They are extremely stable, plenty of room to be in just pick your days with the missus and you'll be sweet as. We have no hesitation to take ours to the hen and chicks, poor knights etc

The only thing I would change if we could redo it would be the seating position. We rarely sit down with two. Its tight, it's alright for couples wanting to be in each other's grill but I don't unfortunately look at my mates and brother that way so... I'd swap it for one big chair at the helm and make everyone else sit behind on the chilly bin or stand.

Also there was no quick way to acess the priming bulb as it was.

The excitement to take the new toy out without properly checking things has been a lesson learnt.

Comfortable and goes well.

Bad news got to the enterance of the harbour to have the motor start sort of cutting out / starving of fuel but had enough fuel didnt have to prime it to start it.. (happened 4 times) Voltage fine. No alarm bells from the suzuki controller throttle thingy like when the tote runs out in the lazer . Has a fuel filter so can't be stuff in the fuel.. Its almost like a misfire? Is connect to the sounder via nmea2000 network. Oil pressure fine. Temperature of the motor fine.

But anyways this is what the outboard doctors are for. Hoping its something that makes me look like a fool like a wire that has a poor connection or something.

Brightside. 27knots at 13.3l per hour 4300rpm (with the out going tide)
