From reading the scientific research on these I can tell you that if you bottom out on a suspension seat, it will magnify the force, and can even be worse than going without. A lot depends on your weight and the g force involved, vs what the gas ram can handle. They don't last forever either. 

Slowing down is always the best solution. 

The other thing you can do is ensure that you have good control over boat trim. PTT, Tabs or a permatrim. A few degrees of trim can be the difference between hitting on the vee or the flatter rear sections of the hull. 


Edit: I don't mean to imply that you shouldn't get one, just don't think that having one means you can get reckless.

Also theres a screw in the gas bit in the lazer that adjusts the weight required to make the pedestal sponge to avoid bottoming out so to speak. So the drivers seat is useless for mum as shes 30kgs lighter than Dad 😂

Did this for a fathers day present a while back in the 520lazercraft. Was something like 250bucks for the gas pedestal and 300 odd for the big fancy seat.

Found the big fancy seat made a huge difference and the gas pedestal works a treat for my father.

Whenever the new boat turns up that my parents are having built ill be able to confirm or deny whether the big chair is the difference or not as only the small hitech seats fit in the new toy. Will be creating a thread on the new boat when its in our ownership and covering everything on it for the benefit of others in the future.

Some years ago I was looking at pneumatic style seats for an 8m cat. I never followed through but one of the comments made was that bottoming out was a problem of some of the designs. In fact it was said that as you were in a pneumatic seat this offered you a false sense of security as people had been injured as a result of bottoming out. Why not go for a shockwave s5 system under your helm seat. Pretty clever looking piece of kit. Not exactly cheap at $2200 per unit but I guess it depends on how much you value a comfortable ride.
