What an awesome shop. I stood the Carpenter next to the Shimano Plugger and decided that I will go with the JDM Shimano and Stella 14000. If I really enjoy I will look at a better rod further later on.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=85776">PE Pete</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 117272<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 27 Apr 2016 at 5:52pm<br /><br />One of the things I like to consider when buying gear is picture the biggest model of your target, in my case mostly Kings & then imagine it tearing off with your expensive lure.<br />Knowing I've got the best gear I can afford gives me a sense of confidence.<br />There have been many valid points raised in this thread with lots of good rod suggestions. <br />For me the confidence comes from using a product that has been hand made here in NZ by expert rod building artisans who I can contact & talk to if I have any questions.<br />Just as an aside I also really like to support local where I can.<br />Pete]]>

Bent yamaga, ripple fisher, ocea plugger, Smith and a few others. The synit just felt better straight away to me so got one custom built to match my saltiga 5000h<br />Mostly cast 80-120g lures on it and it casts a mile even with my technique, and so easy to work the lures]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=90735">Fishy11</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 117272<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 27 Apr 2016 at 3:45pm<br /><br />Yeah mate, as i said that is definately up there, like bucket list - marlin on topwater and doing it on that gear is real fishing in my book.<br>Very different fight as you said though, 40-50kg GT, kingfish could be a sub 5-10min fight on topwater sometimes, but is make or break in the first part of the fight, generally alot more drag being used so rod selection should match that.<br>Even kings vs GT's is still a little different, i personally think in most cases you can get away with a more forgiving (on the angler) rod, less backbone / lifting power needed with kings and marlin.<br>(obviously a 40kg king of the rocks is the exception to this)<br><br>]]>
