Easy........the hg has a 5.8 to 1 i think and the the pg has roughly 4 to 1(check) .........just find out the ratio for each one before you start.......start your handle at a given point and start turning and counting each time the rotor makes a complete turn......the rotor will turn 5 . 8 times for one complete turn of the handle for hg and 4 to 1 if pg ( i am not sure if the PG has that ratio but the hg figure i quote i am pretty sure is right...thats what 5.8 to 1 means = 5.8 revolutions to 1 turn of the handle. ,,,,,= sorted.Wink
 most SW 10,000 are the high gear and the PG are harder to find and more suited to jigging.....while the HG is more suited to top water ....a PG reel is likely to have that written on the spool as well........especially 2008 model the gold/silver ones.

Look on the ShImano website and check how much line each model returns for one turn of the handle.
