    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.fishing.net.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=45588">Lethal</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 113679<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 09 Oct 2015 at 3:41pm<br /><br />i know long ago off Cheltonham Beach we used to go catch these big fat worms with short gold bristles in the front, &nbsp;10 to 12cm around and up to 20cm long,<div>you see the large holes they made all over the place but it had to be a low spring tide to catch these worms and catch them we did, make the best bait you could ever get...<br><div>these are the worms that the worm beds are named after,</div><div>way back in the old days 1960s most people only had grapnels for anchours and after fishing the worm beds the spikes on the anchour would have anything up to 3 or 6 speared onto them, so they used to be bloody thick, if a snapper spewed any up it was a fight to who got it to use as bait, they are that tough it would catch at least 3-5 fish before you lost it...</div><div><br></div><div>since ive owned a boat (33 years) i have had only 2 of these worms ever pop out of a snappers mouth...</div><div><br></div><div>i did take a picture of one of them but its a bit flattened and mangled...&nbsp;</div><div>has anyone else seen these at all???</div><div><br><div><br></div></div><div><img src="uploads/45588/Worm.jpg" height="337" width="450" border="0" /><br></div></div>]]>

   <title><![CDATA[saltwater WORMS : Used to catch those beach worms...]]></title>

Most other species of fish would take them readily too. Over here the closest I have found to them was something I was told was a "cat worm" (nephtyidae). These I was finding around Whananaki. They were under rocks and under weeds. The ones I was getting were around100-150mm in length and fairly thick in body. I tried the local beaches for 'beach worms' but had no luck. The other worms I have found here for bait are, blood worms, extracted in the manner Slayliner&nbsp; mentioned. Haven't tried my Alvey bait pump for them yet but will at some stage this summer.<br>]]>
