If you do wade out, make sure to make your way back well before the tide gets cracking.

Also, plan your return journey carefully.

There are a few smaller channels that you might need to cross.

If I were to fish there, I'd tend to choose around high tide, off the area by the little boat ramp.

It should be relatively clean fishing there at the moment, buggar all sea lettuce to contend with.

Tried stray lining and drop rig?(i think thats what its called).

fished around 1 pm until 6 pm. so just before the high tide and until the low.

Haven't had any bites or saw any fish... hahahaha

I might try under mt manganui next.

There are quite a few places in the harbour you could try.

I'd suggest the Salisbury wharf as a starter, maybe the little jetty under the Mount in Pilot Bay.

Leisure Island can be good for kahawai & john dory if you have a livebait.

The bridge marina has a walkway that allows fishing access.

At the moment there is hardly any sea lettuce so you could cast baits into the deeper water from there.

Next to try would be Sulphur point, either by the yacht club or out on the long wall.

Out there is good softbaiting for kahawai, trevally & kingfish.

Fishing is generally harder in winter but there are fish there & they have to eat sometime

I am from waikato and goes to fish in tauranga land based.

I went out today to catch some fish but there was no bites at all for 5 hours.

So I was wondering did any of you in this forum had any luck catching fish land based in winter time?

If you do could you tell me where about that is?

i usually just fish in the harbour of wharf..
