I have yet to settle on the right hook combination yet but have tried a couple of different sized owners and some spintech trebles. I have some inline singles and am waiting on more in a slightly smaller size

 

 

The outside lures have fixed weights and the inner three have a dynamic weight shift system.

I got one earlier this year. Had a cast while on the come down from the flu and wasn't impressed.

At that stage I figured it would be a better livebait option than the jellytip I use

 

Took it out last nite to see what the tranx felt like on it and was impressed.

Was casting a 75g busted lure I got from Action Tackle and liked the feel

 

I have a batch of sticks drying and will have a better test in a week or so when they are ready

 

Still feels a tad on the short side but that may just be me getting used to it.

I guess the title should be what OH rod can I get now.

 

Research shows the musky rod solution isn't a good option.

Barra rods of suitable length in 2 piece are far and few between.

The snakehead at gofish is a little short as I will be shore based and would prefer 8-9 foot

MC works and or Ripple fisher is out of my price range to be frank.

 

So make, bodge or buy is my dilemma?

Buy is fastest but options are limited.

Bodge is me cutting down a 13 foot 2 piece sonik sk3 butt and reguiding the top half or using the sk4 top half (its compatible) to aim at around a 9 foot rod ( realistically this has about a 5% chance of happening for many reasons)

Make is a steep learning curve and might be a step too far for me as my current abilities/experience limited to re-guiding only.

 

Have seen a 9 foot 2 piece Ecooda expedition rod

Has Fuji guides and rated to throw 100-250 g lures. I assume this to be an optimistic estimate but if it handles 150 OK I am sweet

2.59 mtrs. weighs 290g. rated to 26kg line.

 

Not much info online on this rod but the ecooda range gets some reasonable feedback from aussies. both for rods and reels. Is a Chinese manufacturer. can land one for under 200 dollars nzd

 

Guess I wont get much positive feedback from the purists here  but got to put the question out there just in case.

What are the chances of this being a good solution?

 

I'll take a deep breath and return here expecting to see a long list of reasons that it aint...
