Well in the 20+ years I've been going out there to fish, I've never had any issues with rods I've left on the roof rack while I've been there, and I've noticed other people haven't had things stolen when I've been there either.

This ain't the North Shore.

At low tide the access is usually dry, but sometimes not. The sand moves around all the time.
Don't risk it if the water is knee deep, a life jacket isn't a bad idea there either.

you lose a lot of gear off the 9 pin lots of mussells and you have to stay out over the high tide, not ideal if you have an accident, good fishing off the beach yhough ive caught some big trevs and huge kahawai out of the bay by the 9 pin or walk a bit up to the surf beach for snapper or go to the left and around the back of the rocks there for kingfish

Hi, yep better be careful on the nine pin rock. It does get surrounded with water at ful tide, and can be dangerous trying to wade back through the water to land when there is a swell running. Many people over the years have had their last day out there.
Sinker size? Depends on how much tide is running, you will soon find out. Most people use break-out sinkers (sand grip) down that way as the tide rushes past there.
Sometimes easier just to go up the beach a bit from the ninepin and surfcast. A number of good fish caught there in the last year.

Wassup everyone

I headed to Whatipu this week the weather was pretty crazy.

I was told to go to Nine Pin Rock but the conditions werent the best so i didnt go.

Just a couple of questions.

Do you get stuck on there as the tide comes in ?

What size sinker should i be using ?

Is there anything i should watch out for while im on there ?
