Then twice he ran at the mangroves either side of me. I turned him away from the one to my left so he then cgarged over and buried himself in the one on the right side. And he them twisted and thrashed and got off and left the hook tangled so I had to wade over and unpick it.

Even the snapper there have never tried it on in all the years I fished there   ... smart little sod!

I have a good relationship the local SUP fraternity. If they see me, they often come over with news of where they have seen stingrays with kings. I really appreciate that. I have got a lot of these guys trained and working for me.

 

Most kite surfers are good, just the odd pr... who is a problem. If they p... me off, I let them know it. The guy on Saturday had mental issues, and he saw the mental side of me.

We were singled out for some harrasement by an elderly kite sailor who was taking out his post-mid life crisis by buzzing around us. Mudfish let him know what sort of a person he was and he left us shortly after that.

Weather still featured the all too common gusty westerly wind but the 3 weights were still able to get the distance to the fish. Part of Mudfish's success was his intermediate line that was helping get his Barbie Clouser down to the crab eating kahwai down on bottom. My floater was definitely not helping me but luckily  I had a short sinking leader salvaged from a piece of a wrecked deep sink line - and with that on I started getting fish. I had only 10cm of leader to the fly to make sure it stayed down in the strike zone.

And there were some explosions happening in the waves - some kingfish munching on the tasty juvenile kahawai no doubt.

Went out this monring with the 3 weight and got one kahawai deep down from a channel with some boats passing by - one of whom stopped to watch the crazy guy with the bent fly rod. Held the fish up to show him when I landed it and he waved back and then continued on his way.
