Boat fishing has still been very good, with the west coast still producing snapper and big kingfish up to 28kg. There are also a few groper turning up along with some big terakihi.
For those fishing deeper in the harbour, there are huge schools of kahawai mixed with jack mackerel and blue mackerel, which are both very nice eating and good fun to catch on light gear.
Snapper and trevally are following these schools around too, picking up the left over anchovies pilchards and white bait. Using small jigs will catch most of these species.
The south coast has been tough as we have had some solid southerly swells, in between these there have been good numbers of kahawai and solid chunky red cod caught along with some big toothy critters.
The harbour is producing good terakihi and heaps of kahawai along with some solid spotted sharks. Make the most of the fishing over the next months as there are still a number of quality fish around to catch.
Cheers Felix
