Raglan Fishing Report - May 27th, 2020

  • General Saltwater, North Island West Coast - Kaipara to New Plymouth

With more good weather since the start of level 2, there's been plenty of days to get on the water out west.

Anglers have been doing well on the snapper and gurnard either in close around the 20 to 30 meter mark or out wide in 60 to 70 meters. We're getting the usual autumn increase in size of the pannie snapper with some nice 4 to 6 pounders in each catch, meaning everyone has gone home happy. There's also some really nice healthy looking gurnard in each catch too. While on any given day the fishing has been slow, if you continues to switch up baits and location then you will get your fish eventually. There's also been days where a good fast bin-up happens too.

The kingfish are thin to nil on the reefs now too, compared to summer time. There's of course been some nice catches in the deep with the Mokau trench giving up a few swordfish under level 2 as well.
