The exceptional fishing continues across the board out of Raglan. Snapper are starting to already reach an autumn size up the coast and are in good numbers – and hard on the bite more often than not. There are reports of big snapper in the shallows too at the right times as well. Gurnard are around but are more prevalent heading south. Big kahawai are here also but even they are sometime struggling to get in on the baits ahead of the snapper.
The Kingfish have disappeared in the north it seems. They are out at Gannet Island, but so is a big bronzie and a smaller side kick who prefer their kingfish to be keeper size or bigger.
Out wide the marlin fishing is still going strong around the 90 to 100 metre marks west and northwest. Tuna are here too but there’s only a few reports of good catch numbers.
Tight lines, Murray Monds
