With an increase in sea surface temperature over the last few weeks approaching 18°C and above (before the southwesterly came through to cool things back down), the snapper have moved right into the coast around 25 to 30 metres over the last week.
Fishing in 50 to 60 metres over the last four or five days has been rather barren, but with three days of fishing contests on currently, we’ll have a damn good idea after that as to where the fish are!
The trophy snapper have been mixed in with the pannies in the shallow depths both north and south over the last week. It seems you just have to get them on the bite and they’ll take almost any bait. The fishing however can be slow at times as well.
There’s been a bit of action around the reefs with the kingfish now here for the season. Although there’s no sign of any gamefish or tuna yet, they can’t be far away.
No sign of the warm blue water here yet but it can’t be far away.
