The autumn fishing for snapper is very good at the moment around 35-40m. Both straight out and up the coast are fishing really well, with bait being the preferred method.
Out deeper in 60-100m, the snapper fishing is also exceptional with those nice bigger models around 40-50 cm coming up quickly. However, dog sharks are involved in the process of pulling up these better fish. Good gurnard can also be a nice welcome bycatch along with the odd trevally and blue mackerel.
Out wide on the marlin front, the action has just slowed right up over the last two days with plenty of guys heading out over this latest weather window and not many reports of Mr Stickface. Lots of tuna are between 16-80m both west and southwest of Raglan Bar if you’re looking to go and get some bait in the freezer.
