Raglan Fishing Report - 02/05/25

Trophy snapper off the beaches

With the water temperature now under 20°C again - around the 19°C mark when we were last out - the autumn fishing has returned to what could be termed more typical.

There are plenty of snapper out there ranging in depth anywhere from 14 metres to 40 metres for closer-to-shore fishing, with better models still out deeper in 70 to 80 metres plus. Off the beaches in really close has been producing the trophy snapper.

The usual bycatches of gurnard and trevally are still prevalent, with big schools of kahawai being around the 30- to 40-metre mark, still in plague proportions at times.

Fresh baits seem to be fishing the best, with scaled skin on kahawai producing the bigger fish it seems. Squid and bonito are also working, too.

There’s a good-looking window of weather from Sunday into Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, so he’s hoping you can get out there.

Tight lines.
