Hauraki Gulf fishers will no doubt be looking forward to the prospect of some settled weather this weekend and into next week!
With few trips undertaken over the last fortnight, there’s not much to report, so I’ll do some crystal ball gazing for those looking to scratch the itch. The workup action was good leading up to Easter and based on previous seasons I’m picking the bait, birds, and dolphins will be doing their thing in the lead-up to winter in areas like north of Gannet Rock, south of Anchorite, the Top of Coromandel, and in the Jellicoe Channel from east of Flat Rock up to Cape Rodney. The snapper should be on the bite as they feed up hard before winter.
On the kingfish front, there will still be the odd fish close in, working the anchovy and mackerel schools. Typically, we catch some big specimens in May, although it is a case of quality, not quantity.
That’s all from me – hopefully more to report on next time!
