If you have the means, you want to be fishing around Western Great Barrier currently. The best action has been moving shallower and is currently inside the Pigeon Rock area.
Although the workup fishing is exceptional out wide, there are plenty of snapper to be found East of Kawau and around the Firth of Thames. If you can't find any bird action just cruise around with your sounder to pick up those schools of snapper hard on the bottom.
Now is a great time of year for prospecting out deeper behind Great Barrier on those crisp calm days when a high sits over us. We've recently been bagging hapuka, bass and bluenose and making the most of the bounty by hosting a few dinner parties!
See you out there!
