Hauraki Gulf Fishing Report 080318

08 March 2018

Although the kingfish action is still going great guns, we've also had the opportunity to put in greater slow-jigging efforts over the past week - to great effect! We've found snapper fishing to be most productive in the deeper areas of the Gulf – North of Anchorite and West of Channel Island are good places to scope out. If that sounds a bit far away, softbaiting within sight of the Sky Tower will continue to produce nice snapper right through Autumn.

Kingfish haven't been especially hard to find around the deeper Gulf reefs, with live jack mackerel often being scoffed down within minutes of arrival, albeit the fishing can be noticeably more difficult during certain tidal flows or times of the day. Some areas fish better on the incoming and some on the outgoing, however we find most spots produce well at slack tide and early in the morning. Bait can be caught in both the shallower and deeper open sandy areas of the Gulf currently – just keep an eye on your sounder and cover a few miles and they should show up.

Enjoy!
