I haven't posted here in a while as been in Vietnam and only got back late June. Here is a run down of the last week or so’s hot fishing.
The South and SE winds have slowed the fishing down in closer but if you are brave and venture out wider there is abundant bait and predators gorging on it. When the dinner gong goes the fish don’t mind if south (close mouth) and east (catch least)!
If you are keen on getting out wider, we have been getting some big snapper up to 27.5lb in the Colville channel. We are doing big long drifts through the bait and working birds using big 200g Kaburas to catch them with my own design skirts (gold and brown/yellow catching the biggest with an orange head).
For those who can’t get out real wide I have found some big workups on the way home from top of Coromandel last week. They were about halfway across from Gulf Harbour around here 36°32'175"06. We didn't fish them as we were on the way home and had our fish. They were not there in the morning but started in the afternoon.
Great Barrier on the southern side around the Cradock channel and over towards the pigeons is also going off with winter pilchard workups and whales and dolphins doing their annual thing. I have two day trips over there next week so watch my FB page or here to see what we are up to.
I look forward to seeing you out there. Or come out with me and enjoy my playground and learn a few tricks I have gained over the years!
