Here at Hauraki Express, we're not afraid to call a spade a spade, and as such we have to report the fishing was pretty average last weekend, even after finding the gannets and dolphins. With persistent westerlies this week we haven't had the chance to see if it's picked up. I expect it would have, however, with increasing tides and a more favourable moon phase I'm sure those bigger snapper and kingis are back on the chew.
If you can't get out wide at the moment, last time I was out, I saw workups just NE of Shearers rock and also not too far off Rangi light. Otherwise, hit the shallows with softbaits or strayline baits and find yourself a lazy winter moocher.
Till next time,
Captain Nick of Hauraki Express
