The start of summer and the weather gods have finally got rid of the wind for a bit and given us some sunny weather to get out and catch some big fish.
Top water kingfish are still there to be targeted in the usual locations, there have been big bust out of kingys chasing mackerel to the surface where there has been a feeding frenzy, as many lures as you can get in the vicinity, is as many kingfish you will hook.
Also we have great numbers of big kingfish holding on the deeper reefs, where live baiting and jigging has been working hand and hand, This week I was able to make Sydney angler, Brad Hoy’s 50th birthday extra special where Brad had a full on battle and landed a 40.8kg kingfish, this had been a dream of his and was great to share that moment.
I have been targeting big snapper on the mid depth reefs with 30-65gm jigs, there re great numbers of fish in the 5kg to 6kg range with the biggest Snapper going 10.8kg, this fish fell victim to the Nomad Designs 60mg “The Gypsy” in Red, Black, Glow colour.
The water temp has started to creep up, with us finding a patch of 20.1 deg water last Sunday, which had a school of Saurie and a Mantaray in it, so it will be a matter of time before hopefully we see the Yellow fin and Striped Marlin show up.
Cheers, Ben.
