Bay of Islands Fishing Report - 30/05/24

Good snapper close to home

Not much to report this fortnight as came down with the dreaded COVID after returning from the Hutchwilco NZ Boat Show! But I have to say I had a great time at the Show inspecting all the great products on display and dreaming of what could be! Back in the Bay of Islands, Ryan has been taking the opportunities provided to get out on his kayak and catch some great fish including the 18lber pictured. Terry also reports he has caught some good fish around the 50cm mark off the beach.

I finally got out last Monday to catch a feed. This didn’t take long straylining in the shallows and the fish, although not huge, were plentiful, hungry, and fat! We also went out to the 60m mark to try a few slowjigs. One nice pannie snapper and a 2kg blue mackerel were landed before the wind blew up and we headed home. I think I’ll give this another crack this weekend as the sounder was full of bait sign.

Next on the competition calendar is the BOISC Yellowtail International Tournament to be held 9-14th June. In the meantime, perhaps you could get out there and practice!

So, come into the shop to check out the latest in gear, get your bait, ice and berley, and most importantly, some genuine intel! We have reduced our operating hours for the winter period and are open from 9am to 4pm, Weds, Fri and Sat, Sun. As always, if you urgently need some supplies after hours just give me a call.
