The weather has improved greatly and so too the fishing opportunities.
We ventured out into the middle ground at the start of this report period and only managed two fish, but they were 6 and 10lbs, so enough for tea.
The following Saturday we decided to have a crack at a marlin as the morning looked fine enough and the afternoon NE would chase us in. We headed towards the Cavalli Islands and were rewarded with a triple strike of yellowfin. We boated two and then put the gear out again. Almost immediately a marlin took a liking to the albi redeye tuna lure out the back on the 15kg shotgun rod.
Plenty of tense minutes later, Nathan had caught his first striped marlin which was tagged and released. The fish was caught on a 30-year-old Penn International 20T reel which was won as a prize in 1995 and gifted to Nathan. Pretty special!
Nathan's first stripey.
