Recent visits to the offshore FADs have been producing better results, with medium-sized yellowfin tuna becoming more abundant. Small packs of mahimahi have also been hanging around, which is very early in the year for these.
Most welcome has been the recent reports and sightings of some decent marlin, especially around the Halagigie and Namukulu offshore FADs. Unfortunately, more unsettled weather due to recent Pacific cyclones has meant that getting out to hone in on these beauties has been further delayed.
Operators have been encouraged with the number of anglers returning to Niue to target the like of wahoo.
The new season's wahoo will begin to arrive over the next couple of months, and we look forward to dealing with these sought-after sport fish with much anticipation.
Billfish have been encountered close to the FADs.
