Had enough of this cruddy weather? Why not come away for a week in the tropical sunshine with a bit of gamefishing thrown in?
Each year NZ Fishing News hosts a reader’s trip to fish in Vava’u, Tonga and while this year’s trip is full, it looks as though we may have space for one more team of four.
This could be made up of your own four team members, or a composite crew made up of individuals or pairs of anglers. Priority will be given to a crew of four.
Join contest hosts Grant Dixon and Naomi (Nod) Kininmont for seven nights, including four days of gamefishing, based out of the beautiful Tongan Beach Resort, right on the shores of Neiafu Harbour.
Crews draw for different boats every day and there are opportunities for a bit of extra fishing thrown in if you are up for it.
Travel dates are October 25 to November 1 and flights on those days will depend on availability. There may be some slight adjustments, but the worst-case scenario is you may have to stay a day longer!
This is the 19th time this trip has been run. The price of $4495 includes international (ex-Auckland) and Tongan domestic airfares; four days’ fishing (quarter share); seven nights’ accommodation (twin share); lunches on board, for anglers; all breakfasts; five dinners – including the welcome barbecue and prizegiving; tournament entry; and event polo shirt.
The contest aspect of the trip is low-key. Anglers fish for trophies, produced by local craftspeople, rather than prizes.
