No News of Stolen 'Ultimate Marine Makeover' Boat

Last year NZ Fishing Media organised competition where one lucky – make that deserving – reader had their boat pimped.

The Riedinger family, unbeknown to them, had their older 5.5m McLeay submitted which was chosen as the winner.

The boat was given the full treatment and since caught the eye of many – unfortunately, it also attracted the attention of a criminal element which removed it from the family’s Whitianga residence in the early hours of Monday (November 15) morning.

The Riedinger family are naturally gutted. They have only had one summer with the boat and had grown to love it, running up plenty of hours fishing and exploring Mercury Bay.

Dad Jason heard a ‘noise’ just after midnight and investigated, but all seemed okay, with the boat still locked in its place in the carport they had erected specially to house their pride and joy.

Getting up in the morning, they were blown away to find the boat had been missing, the security device cut.

Since then, the boat has not been sighted and Jason has spent considerable time researching CCTV footage around the town, revealing some images of interest.

“We can ascertain it was most likely a black utility with a black canopy which had been ‘pimped out’.

A similar ute had been seen by members of the family ‘scoping’ their place and at one point pulled into the driveway.

Jason says the information has been passed onto the police but at the time this report was published, there were no firm leads.

NZFM urges members of the public to keep their eyes and ears open for Oarsumm, which features a white hull, Suzuki outboard, Humminbird electronics, fresh canopy, and upholstery and a regalvanised trailer. If you see any boat that fits this description, contact your nearest police station.
