Two keen young Westport anglers and good mates, Austin O’Toole and Oliver Robinson, are this year’s joint winners of the Mercury TAKF competition.
Over the year readers have submitted images of young anglers and their catches and all go into the draw to win a Mercury rigid hull inflatable boat, powered by a Mercury 8HP outboard, all on a Voyager trailer. Kilwell and RFD come to the party with fishing tackle and lifejackets.
This is the first time the prize has gone to the South Island but two keener fishers you are unlikely to find anywhere. Oliver’s dad Campbell submitted the image of the two boys with a couple of nice snapper they caught off Wesport last Easter.
“They are great mates and spend a lot of time together,” Campbell says.
After hearing the good news, the boys were quickly planning their first mission – to target kahawai in the Buller River.
