Three marques dominated this year’s Hutchwilco NZ Boat Show – Extreme, Rayglass and McLay – with Extreme creaming the two major awards for best new model and boat of the show.
Two awards went to the Extreme 605 Centre Console, which took out the ‘Specialist Fishing Boat Up To 7 Metres’ award as well as the ‘Supreme Winner Award’. It’s much bigger brother, the Extreme 795 Walk Around took out both the ‘Specialist Fishing Boat Up To 8 Metres’ and ‘Best New Model’ awards. In usual Extreme Boats style, both boats were bristling with features. Check out the Setting Up for Sportfishing feature elsewhere in this edition).
The alloy boats in some respect have it over their GRP counterparts – it is a little easier to be creative in metal than GRP, as alloy can be formed and welded on the shop floor where as with fibreglass the process is more difficult with each feature having to be created via a mould.
There was no denying the thought and effort that had gone into creating the overall champion – a worthy winner among some tough competition.
‘Altus Most Innovative International Product’ went to the Mercury 4.6 litre V8 four-stroke outboard, for a new engine that features several innovations for the outboard world while the ‘Altus Most Innovative Local Product’ was the Fusion Apollo Series which has been earning world wide claim for its touch-screen technology.
Rayglass was associated with another winner on the night, Hall of Fame inductee Tony Hembrow.
Two fishing related operations – Catch Fishing Tackle and Fishing & Adventure, took out ‘most interactive stand’ and ‘best small stand’ awards.
