The Bay Of Plenty is a well known fishing destination for targeting tarakihi, snapper and gurnard.
It's also popular for larger quarry, with many anglers jigging or livebaiting for kingfish at places like White Island, or targeting areas like the Ranfurly Bank for a variety of species including kingfish, hapuku and bass.
In the summer months the area from Whakatane to Waihau Bay is popular with gamefishers and the area can be red hot for blue and striped marlin depending on the season.
