Stoney Creek - Technical Sport Fishing Range

Stoney Creek is synonymous with high-quality hunting apparel. Now, they’re plunging into the marine realm with a new sport fishing range. The Stoney Creek crew are keen sport fishers and wanted technical gear that performs, protects, and lasts, so they embarked on comprehensive research and development to deliver their Sport Fishing range of clothing and accessories.

And because the Stoney Creek crew have “tested it by thrashing it”, they stand behind their goods with a one or two-year warranty (depending on individual products). The NZ Fishing News crew was fortunate enough to be given a bunch of summer-specific Stoney Creek gear to test out over the warm months of punishing sun (and equally punishing ex-tropical cyclones). The attire and accessories were fit-for-purpose, comfortable, and delivered excellent sun protection. A summary of each product we tested is provided below.

Apex Cooling Hoodie

This long-sleeve hooded shirt has UPF 50+ sun protection, and the technical fabric features four-way stretch for comfort and manoeuvrability, ODORCRUNCH to reduce fishy smells, and POLYGIENE treatment to maintain personal freshness. The NZ Fishing News team especially appreciated the cooling underarm gussets!

Apex Strike Shorts

The Strike shorts look like your traditional boardies but have convenient pockets and attachments for fishing pliers or line cutters, twoway stretch, and feature technical fabric that is UPF 50+ and includes ODOR-CRUNCH technology.

Apex Chill Tube Neck Gaiter

I haven’t been a massive fan of neck gaiters in the past, but the Stoney Creek offering is light and cooling, wicks away moisture, and is fast drying.

Apex Fishing Sun Gloves.

These fingerless gloves are also UPF 50+, easy to tie knots and handle gear with, and have some excellent features like extra-long cuffs for wrist sun protection and grip tabs on the middle finger to aid easy removal.

Sport Fishing Jandals

Jandals and summer boating go handin-hand in Aotearoa. Stoney Creek’s Sport Fishing Jandals are comfortable with multi-layer EVA foam, offer more grip and support than traditional jandals, and have non-marking soles so that you won’t piss off your mate with the new, unblemished boat!

Chilly Bag (14L)

The 14L Stoney Creek Chilly Bag is easy to carry and a handy size for food and refreshments (room for 18 cans or 12 bottles).

Our rigorous testing proved that it keeps beverages cold for over three days when a few kilograms of salt ice are added. It also floats, has an airtight zip, and features a convenient see-through accessories pocket that is touchscreen compatible.

Bottle Bootie

Kept the drinks cold until they were finished – tick!
