Whitianga Boat Ramp Review

Whitianga Boat Ramp Review

Overview

The Whitianga Boat Ramp is a multi-lane concrete ramp with a pontoon, located opposite the Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club. The ramp is suitable for all size trailer boats at all tides. There is a strong tidal current on both incoming and outgoing tides.

The Whitianga Boat Ramp gives extensive access out to some of New Zealand’s best fishing and diving areas. From the abundance of bait in Mercury Bay, to the Aldermans in the South and the Mercury Islands and Cuvier to the North, there are a multitude of options all year round.

A council parking permit is required to use this ramp. An annual or day permit can be purchased from the local service stations and tackle shops. For annual permit holders, the permit should be displayed near the trailer winch area on the drawbar and be clearly visible.

Parking

There is a large trailer parking area on the other side of the playground adjacent to the ramp. During high season, this ramp is very popular, so the parking area opposite the marina is also made available for trailer parking, however, this can also get very busy.

Facilities

Great facilities are available for everything you need before and after your day out on the water. There are plenty of places nearby to refuel the boat and body, as well as public toilets, shops and playground.
