Whangamata Beach Road Boat Ramp Review

Whangamata Beach Road Boat Ramp Review

Overview

The Whangamata Beach Road ramp is located in one of New Zealand’s most popular holiday destinations. It is a wide hard-packed sand ramp with a pontoon extending into the estuary. There is great fishing and boating access from Whangamata, being centrally located between the Alderman Islands, Mayor Island and Slipper Island. Use of this ramp requires a Thames Coromandel District Council boat ramp permit which costs $65 annually, or $6 daily. Please note that power loading is prohibited on all Coromandel boat ramps.

A five-knot speed restriction is in place from the ramp all the way out to the harbour entrance. There is a ski lane a little west of the ramp which is limited to the top half of the tide.

Parking

There is good parking available near this ramp, with a separate trailer parking area off Harbour View Road.

Facilities

Whangamata township, just a few minutes down the road, has everything you need including grocery supplies, fuel, bait and tackle and accommodation.
