Kuaotunu Boat Ramp Review

Kuaotunu Boat Ramp Review

Overview

The Kuaotunu Boat Ramp is located at Quarry Point, just off SH25. There is a metal track down to a two lane concrete ramp with a breakwater. This is one of the closest ramps to Mercury Islands and the surrounding area and has no bar crossing. There are some rocks to watch out for so line up the guide markers (located on the hill and a rock at the ramp) to get in and out of the channel. At dead-low water, it still is usable but can be very shallow so care needs to be taken. The space around the ramp is limited to two boats at a time, so on your return, wait at the reef outside the breakwater until a space is available.

Parking

There is parking for about 20 trailers but at peak times this will fill up quickly.

Facilities

Toilets are located at the ramp. The Kuaotunu Campground is located nearby, and a shop and Luke’s Kitchen restaurant are just five minutes down the road. The nearest gas stations are Whangapoua and Whitianga, both 15 minutes from the ramp.
