About PICT

The mission of the PICT (Plumbing Industry Charity Group) is to provide financial support to organisations helping youth at risk.

Young people today face a range of challenges, including violence, crime, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, depression and peer pressure. The PICT is proud to support inspirational organisations who dedicate themselves to giving vulnerable youth somewhere to go and someone to talk to.

The PICT raises funds through annual events such as the 2010 PICT Fishing Tournament. Events are attended by a broad range of plumbing industry representatives, from merchants and suppliers to plumbers and supporting businesses.

History of the PICT

In 2001, a group of plumbing industry leaders established the Plumbing Industry Charity Events.

In 2008, the Charity Events became the Plumbing Industry Charitable Trust (PICT).  The founding members of the PICT shared a specific concern about New Zealand's disproportionately high youth suicide rate. As concerned parents, business people and community members, this visionary group made a decision to step up and lead their industry in doing something to help our young people deal with an issue that was largely being ignored by funding agencies at the time. Their mission was to leverage the resources - and the compassion - of the plumbing industry, and do more collectively than any one business or plumber could do on their own. And it worked.

Over the years, the focus of the PICT has broadened, and the Trust now supports a wide range of organisations that work with youth to help them navigate their way through life's challenges. To date, the PICT has raised over $800,000 for charities supporting Youth. In 2010, the Trust's 10th year, they aim to reach the $1million target. Being involved in  the 2010 PICT Fishing Tournaments is one way of making a contribution while enjoying the company of friends and family in some healthy outdoor activity at the same time.
