Daiwa Jupiter S 6000

Being an avid Daiwa reel fan I jumped at the opportunity to test the new Jupiter S 6000 reel and take it through its paces.

The first thing you notice about the reel is the solid look and feel.  When you pick the reel up it has guts to it and the smooth action when spinning the handle is something lacking in a lot of reels today.

This reel is smooth through the whole range of movements and has all the features you would expect in a reel over twice the price or more.

Lets look at the facts, most stores have this reel at around the $90.00 mark, it varies but this gives you the general idea.

When I received the reel I thought a couple of hundred was the price so was pleasantly surprised at the price as you can imagine.  It has features like the Emblem X series, a wide spool that takes 300 meters of 10 kg line or around 500 meters of 6 kg which makes it ideal for the beach fisho or for a bit more grunt off the rocks.

The handle is interchangeable to the left or right and is easy to change over.  The drag has a positive feel and a loud click so when that fish goes for a screaming run you’ll hear it clearly.  Being silver in colour makes it easy to keep clean and after showing it to both ladies and men it is possibly the best neutral colour for fishos.  A large handle with easy to grip T section makes for a relaxed winding in with no hand cramp, common on some other really small reel handles.

If you are looking for a first reel or another to add to your armoury this is a great buy.  I get to use all sorts of reels and rods and have to be neutral to test their pros and cons, hard to do when so many are good reels and offer similar features.

If you want to get away from the buyer beware scenario and purchase good gear at a good price that will last you for years this is a good place to start, I think that one of these in the Christmas stocking would please the fisho in your family whether he or she be a beach or boat angler.
