One of the keys to great strayling is to have your bait in the right place. If you are targeting snapper where there's a bit of current, that can mean constantly changing your sinker to have the correct weight for the lineweight you're fishing.

The warehouse used to sell a spiral shaped lead sinker that was perfect as you could simply wind them on - ideal for adding just a little weight when strayling. Find a thinish bit of lead, or flatten a piece, cut into strips and wind round a 50mm nail. Use different thicknesses and lengths to create a variety of weights. very simple, very cheap and really effective.
