Mission Statement: More Fishing, More Fun, More Fish, More Challenge.......... More You.
Vision Statement: To be the leading Sports Fishing organisation promoting and providing education, participation and pathways to sustainable marine fishing for all Kiwis
New Zealand Sport Fishing (NZSF) is a not for profit organisation recognised by SPARC (Sport & Recreation New Zealand) as a National Sports Organisation (NSO) representing the sport of marine angling. The organisation was originally founded and incorporated in 1957 and was then named the New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council. Its purpose and its reason for being established has altered and expanded since then with its 59 member clubs now promoting all forms of marine fishing, not just big game. Clubs hold many hundreds of tournaments throughout New Zealand every year, working in their local communities to grow participation in marine fishing and encouraging youth participation. Many tournaments benefit local and National Charities.
Whilst membership of a club is not required to participate in the sport, the positives of membership are many and we encourage all anglers whether young or old, male or female to contact their local club and investigate the many activities and benefits that membership can deliver. Many of our members fish from shore and the beach and sea fishing from a boat is only one aspect of participation
Over a million Kiwis go fishing annually. Whether it's children learning to fish from wharves and beaches, or family outings to catch and enjoy a feed of fish through to those who target game fish and test their skills in sport fishing, fishing is an integral part of New Zealand’s heritage, culture and outdoor recreation. Fishing is a social sport and a leisure and recreational outdoor activity and New Zealand has world class fisheries with many thousands of tourists visiting to explore our waters.
The organisation conducts education programs, is developing activities, research projects, participates in fisheries management, runs competitions and are a keeper of New Zealand’s Fishing Records in conjunction with the New Zealand Angling and Casting Association whom we recognise and value as a partner in the sport. NZSF supports and now represents 59 Member Clubs and 32,000 affiliate members nationwide. As a recognised National Sports Organisation it aspires to represent and assist all Kiwis in their ability to go fishing and catch a feed of fish and also have clearly identified and found accessible pathways to participation.
NZ Sport Fishing has developed initiatives to promote and support Kiwi’s going fishing, along with responsible and sustainable management of our marine environment and to help ensure that future generations of Kiwi’s are able to enjoy the unique opportunities that New Zealand’s marine environment offers. Our goal is to become a leading National Sports Organisation delivering enjoyable quality programmes and pathways to the sport of marine fishing for everyone.
On behalf of our members and Management Committee we invite you to check out our site and contact us with any feedback.
The site is in transition at the moment and we will upgrading and redesigning it over the coming months but there is a huge amount of content.
