As lake Rotorua starts cooling, the fish that were once packing the stream mouths at Awahau and Hamurana have started to return to the lakes. A number of rainbow remain, so it is still a good option to fish there for another week.
Ngongotaha is holding some good condition fish. Fisherman using smelt patterns, Prince Nymph or Hare and Copper have experienced some good results.
The Waiteti has been productive using the same patterns as the Ngongotaha.
There have been some good reports of excellent condition fish in Rotoiti, trolling very deep, also jigging continues to provide the same good
results. Fish have started moving outside the normal winter stream mouths. If fishing in these spots be prepared to change flies regularly and look to the sky for some rain to help.
In the Murupara area the Whirinaki is producing good condition fish. Parachute Adams and both light and dark Scruffies. The smaller flies being a better option.
No reports for the Rangitiki this week.
Rerewhakaaitu and Lake Tarawera are still producing a few fish, but are quite compared to Rotoiti.
As we look forward to Easter, without wishing to spoil anyone's holiday, we badly need some rain to commence the winter fishing.
The end of March brings the tagged trout competition, and for all those taking part, we wish you good luck and hope this competition is a great success.
We would like to welcome the Aussies from Melbourne who arrived yesterday to conquor the Whirinaki. Good luck boys!
Cheers Doug and Malcolm
