Fishing Reports

Best Western Braeside Resort Rotorua

Firstly news from Murupara. The Whirinaki has fished well with fish up to 4lbs. Pick of the locations is near the bridge where it joins the Rangitiki.Cicada and leaf hopper patterns proving to be the best. The Rangitiki itself is much harder with the current lack of access. But
the parts with access have been fishing well, however there is alot of pressure on these spots largely reducing the catch rate.

Rerewhakaaitu is still producing fish to the usual patterns, la-giaconda, hamills killer , olive woolley bugger and cicada. There has been some success trolling on Okatiana, using a yellow wing spotty gold tasmanian devil. No reports this week of fish taken on the fly or
jigging.

Rotoiti still remains the top jigging lake with good catches reported, remembering however there is most likely five times more fisherman fishing here which gives a slightly distorted result.

Ngongotaha and Waititi are producing a good number of fish, but nothing large to note. Not alot of pressure here and a mix of smelt patterns with nymphs at the mouth and a prince nymph with a black nymph dropper upstream.

As was the case last week Awahau is still commanding the most attention with large number of fish being taken but the pattern has moved more towards the evening being quieter during the day time. Hamurana as well, but not to the same extent. These two areas will continue to fish as long as the weather stays warm as it is at the moment.

There is still the odd report of fish being taken at the entrance to the Ohau Channel, but nothing of any size.

Our greeting to the Tasmania fisherman currently fishing our waters. We hope they are having some luck.

Much to our surprise, for those who remember him we were visited by "Louie the Fish" rumour is - from his mouth, he is returning to live in Turangi after being overseas for many years . He still looks and sounds the same. He has his name on his cap so he remembers who he
is - Welcome back Louie.

Cheers for now, and thanks for the many e-mails of support it is much appreciated.

Doug and Malcolm
