Fishing Reports

The Store report may 8-12

Well we have had a deludge of rain over the past couple of weeks. In fact we've had one of the biggest floods for years that was totally contained in the riverbeds as for once the lake was at a natural level. So much for massive expenditure on flood retention schemes.

The rain that fell earlier in the month was huge and as a result  there has been a great deal of debris that have been flushed out of all the rivers. Some of the lies and holes that we know as fishing spots have changed and recent rainfall over the earlier part of this week has seen the rivers come up and hold water again.

The rivers are all in great condition with volume and colour and so are very fishable. There is often little pressure at this time of the year, the month of May being duck shooting and many anglers tent to spend time shooting instead of fishing!

Plenty fof fish have moved though and with the volume of water being a little higher it's has been a little harder to read where the fish are holding. A matter of fishing accross water and some times lots of it to find the fish.

With the extra volume one needs to be careful as a result and fish your feet as often thats where the fish are. A wet line too is a great tool to canvas the bottom of the river.

The Tongariro has held a lot of extra water being at natural flow, difficult to fish at times but that is a great  challenge.

There have been no lack of fish moving as I said but they are small well conditioned and plenty of them, which we thought would be the pattern this season.

River mouths all have had a big blow out, take care near the drop offs and allow the fish to come to you, don't push them off. The smaller mouths have fished over recent nights fish holding off the side of the rips, with out any pressure from anglers.

Have fun and feel free to call for an update,

cheers
