From November thru May is dry fly season (summer), with nymphing being most productive from then on. Six weight outfits are standard with floating lines although an 8 or 9wt strongly recommended for a trophy brown hunt. The Bay of Plenty is famous for sharing the highest sunshine hours in the country. Polaroids are a must, in order to see the fish you are about to cast to, and a wide brimmed hat (in subtle tones) is also advantageous. Max4 Camo will have you covered. From Dec – Jul 31st MRG can take you to where you can sight-fish to monstrous brown trout. Some of these weigh in excess of 20 pounds, with plenty going well over the magic 10lb mark. Biggest banked last season was 18lb! These are all wild fish and are exceptionally wily. Specially crafted flies supplied. Hooking them is only half the battle – as the sheer power of them, armed with only a flyrod, see the odds tipped firmly in their favour! Don’t bring your favourite flyrod on this adventure… - “Like hooking into a dolphin on a tiny stream!”
