Fishing Reports

Well what an interesting week with wind, rain and thunderstorms and today is a lovely sunny day with a little bit of wind and lots of sunshine.

The next few days should prove to be a mixture with sun, and westerlies with a tinge of southerly which is great for the fishing as it usually pushes a few fish up the tributaries This can change of course, but generally we will get cooler morning and evening temperatures, some windy patches, but lots of warmth during the day which is good for those fishing the rivers.

Rivers are all in excellent condition, low and clear which means that fishing is a little more challenging but the fish are still moving in smallish numbers and if you’re prepared to fish to the conditions you’re bound to be rewarded. Smaller naturals, glow bugs first thing and last thing and even a dry during the busier warmer part of the day will work also. Smaller wet flies for the wet liners and fishing the braids, busier water are good options at the moment. Using a smaller diameter of fluro and smaller wispy indicators, even a dry would work quite well. Placing yourself in the right spot to prevent too much shadow or movement across the water and being very careful with your mending is important too.

Fish are still moving in small pods throughout all the rivers in the fishery at present and the lack of pressure is great, which means if your on the water you have a good chance of hooking fish if you read the conditions.

River mouths have continued to fish both early morning and night, little pressure and the fish are still moving in smallish number and often do as the temperatures drop, especially at night.
Lake fishing has been good with the lake edge clear and clean again after recent rainfall. The smelt are in close and the fish are following them in. Early morning and late evening as always are the best times to be on the water. As the day lengthens, fish across deeper water but at a depth of 3-5 colours with a length of leader to your fly that is twice the length of the displacement of your boat for best results.
