Trout fishing report
The Waitawheta / Ohinemuri Rivers were both running very low and very clear this week. The Waitawheta in particular was exceptionally low, lower than I have ever seen it and all the rocks are covered in a thick slimy weed growth. So if you are heading down there then adjust your techniques to full Summer mode. That is; longer leaders and small (size 14 – 16) nymphs suspended underneath an attractor dry fly. Prince nymphs and black bead Pheasant Tails seem to be the best choice for the nymph and the Manic Tackle rubber legged attractor dry is already bringing a few fish to the surface.
According to Craig from Trout Heaven the lower Puniu is fishing extremely well with the River Ninja Pink nymph getting good results.
No report on Lake Pupuke as I haven’t been down there recently, has anyone been having any success?
