Fantastic, we have had some rain which has brought up all the rivers in the area. Over the weekend there have been times that we haven’t been able to fish but a few anglers made the best of the conditions and the water available to us.
We have had a huge amount of water that has affected the rivers that are fed by the catchment of the Kaimanawas and the Waipakahi, as a result the Waimarino, Wiaotaka and the Tongariro and the Tauranga Taupo have been full over the most part of the weekend and are dropping quickly.
The spring fed streams are getting a great deal of pressure as there haven’t been many other options but they have fished well despite the angling pressure, together with volume and colour. One would need to be very careful and aware that on the Hine that the dam can be spilled at anytime so take care and be aware of the river rising quickly.
Despite the rain there have been a number of happy anglers that have made the best of the conditions and have taken good numbers of fish mostly in good condition.
Take extreme care if you’re planning to fish over the next day or so as after the huge volume of water, llies and the rivers change so quickly. Likewise around the river mouths as huge amounts of debris and water often create holes and traps for anglers.
As the rivers clear we should be in for some fantastic fishing right throughout the whole fishery, no excuses this time!
The weather indicates that we may get some skiffy rain and maybe some heavier on tuesday night and wednesday morning though due to clear and turn to the south bringing cooler temperatures and snow, yipee!
Feel free to give us a call for an update or accommodation anytime,
