Good morning its such an amazing morning too with a very heavy frost and lots of ice on the roads this morning, just beautiful, no wind, perfect once it warms up a little.
We had a great weekend with some fairly consistant rain that didnt really have any affect on the rivers but it wasnt enough to be a pain or get in the way of those out doing things.
Sunday was perfect up our end of the lake with the lower end receiving a little wind which made fishing on the Tongariro in some areas a little harder.
The last 2 weekends in May are always very very busy on the rivers and tributaries of the Taupo region, so there fore its not hard to imagine that those that fished over the weekend, were greated by lots of other anglers that all had the same idea, so therefore there was a little pressure on some areas which is to expected.
Most anglers found that the fishing was challeging many due not to the numbers but that after having had such a great period with conditions ideal, fish though they were in all the rivers they were not actively feeding which is what happens some times. Many anglers it was one of the first trips of the season so it was a reafirming lies and water that they had nof fished across for some time, and it takes a little time to find the holding water.
Despite all that for those that are familiar with the fishery the fishing was challenging, with 3-4 fish taken and several lost.
The smaller tributaries are low and clear and full of fish that are hard to get onto, those that fished late sunday and are lucky enough to fish monday will be greated with a great hard frost and some fresh fish that have moved in fresh as a daisy. The lower river on the T/t and the Hine fished to those late yesterday that were fortunate enough to be on the river, mostly jacks, which is always a good sign of more to follow.
The forecast is for settled weather, fishing will be challenging to those that are perhaps a little less comfortable with the low clear conditions but fishing to the conditions be it wet or nymph will definately produce results.
The Tongariro likewise was busy with pockets of fish proving rewarding to some but the majority of anglers found fishing hard, fishing to the conditions and not where everyone else is, is the answer, there is so much pocket water.
River mouths are all revealing fish, hard frosts and cool evenings lure the angler and the fish!
Have a great day cheers stella 073868953
