Fishing Reports
Anybody seen any wind?
Well it's been a while since we had a report thanks to the never ceasing wind!
Not really a lot to report on, but we do have a few pieces of information to pass to you all. Firstly Flat Rock and some of the deeper foul around the back of Kawau Island is fishing very well. Catches of good snapper have been reported and although the weather has been shocking, those that have managed to get up there are doing well. The islands in Whangaparaoa Bay and the foul on the northern side of Whangaparaoa are fishing quite well too. It just needs to stop blowing!
Anchorite is chocka full of fish at the moment too. If you can get a window of good weather, it could be well worth it to get out there and chance your arm. It is often the case that you will drive right past good fishing on your way to one of the Gulfs' "NAME" spots. This was the case the other day when colleuges went screaming off to Little Barrier and returned with nothing of any note. They stopped just off Mahurangi Heads on the way home and landed a limit of snapper in 2 hours, keeping nothing under 36 cm.
It's the old fish your feet first story!
Speaking of in close, there has been a few fish showing up around the foul on the south east reef, off the corner of Whangaparaoa and I'll be giving it a bit of a nudge in the next day or so. I'll let you know how it goes. I have a few other areas I want to get into as well.
One of them is behind Tiri. The foul and the coast line behind Tiri have been relatively untouched, both commercially and recreationallly over the past few weeks, due to the weather and I'm sure it will be holding some pretty good snapper. Take plenty of berley with you and maybe the thermos too.
The Trevally are still around and I'm sure it wont be long before we start to see the Barracouta turn up. We didin't have too much trouble with them last season and hope this season is as good. Avoid the shiny tackle for a start and possibly change to a recurve style hook for the ledger rigs or on a Flat Rock Special. At least then you can get the hooks back as the recurve hooks tend to hook the fish in the corner of the mouth. Flasher rigs are 'coutas' favourite choice and I try to avoid using them if there is 'couta around.
We have had a change of address and our land line number has changed also. The new number is:

Our mobiles are all the same, as is our email address. We have moved our operation closer to the marina at Gulf Harbour as both the boats are there.
If you want to get into a bit of winter stray lining or have a shot with some deep water drifts and reef fishing just give us a call on the above number or on the boat (025)2446346. You can also email us at
