Fishing Reports

Hey, hey, hey...it's FAT ALBERTS!

Manukau Sport Fishing Club hosted it's first Tuna Hunt Competition on Saturday, 12th January in near perfect conditions! Around 27 boats departed Huia in search of the elusive "Westie Yellowskin Tuna" to no avail, but plenty of Albies kept the crews busy all day clearing the gear! Many 'chicken of the sea' were being caught everywhere in the 50m to 1000m mark in both directions (North + South)...most weighed in the 4kg to 8kg bracket but a few BIG BOYS around the 14kg mark also graced our scales! As a point of interest, two marlin were hooked and dropped during the competition...one in the green water (40m over the bar) in amongst the kahawai schools and the other out at the 300m mark North of the bar! We are predicting it is only a matter of days before the first long-haired, black tee-shirt wearing, holden driving stick-face will be landed...who will it be? The Manukau Sport Fishing Club would like to sincerely thank the Manukau Coastguard for listening out and providing assistance crossing the bar to those that wanted to see how the professionals do it! This service is also going to be available during the Westcoast Jackpot Tournament (21st, 22nd and 23rd Feb 2002), so if you have never been out over the Manukau Bar this could be your opportunity to learn how from the experts! Please call me on 021 385 491 if you are interested in finding out more.... Screaming ratchets Kerren
