News Flash from the Eastern Bay of Plenty
Yellowfin tuna and plenty of them! After the “Cascades” initial fish several days ago well north of White Island the floodgates have now opened! Today (25/11) there have been at least 10 yellowfin landed, some as close as 4NM east of Whale Island – only a matter of 7-8 NM north of Whakatane. These early season Van guards are averaging over 45 kilos with the heaviest thus far being a 57 kilo specimen landed by Clint Boon off his family boat “Rhondella”. To further spice the action there has been at least three marlin strikes in among the tuna fleet. Unfortunately none were landed but their presence are unprecedented here at this time of year. Who knows where this season will lead us? One thing is for sure, excitement reins supreme at the moment!!
