Fishing ReportsHawkes BayWet weather has kept fishing effort low over recent weeks and even when there have been fine breaks the saltwater fishing has been slow. Kahawai, a few barracouta and red cod have been the main catches for the surfcasters with one snapper of 9.78 kgs being the only highlight in the last two weeks.
Trout fishing howecver is looking up with good catches at Lake Tutira. A handful of fish over 3.5kgs have been taken with the best reported being 4.2kgs. These have been rainbows, fat and preparing for spawning. Water boatmen and snails are predominant in their diet at present. The Tukituki River is fishing well and a visit by the New Zealand Fly Fishing Team saw several fish taken at Patangata.
With whitebait due to show up soon fishing should improve over the next few weeks for both fresh and saltwater anglers.
